Session Title: Lightning Talk Challenge - Snapshots in geographical research

Conference of Irish Geographers, 10-12th May, 2018, Maynooth University, Ireland

Can you distil the core thesis of your research into a three minute presentation?

The Postgraduate & Early Career Network (PECN) of the Geographical Society of Ireland (GSI) invites geographers, at any stage of their career, to participate in a ‘Lightning Talk’ challenge at the Conference of Irish Geographers 2018. Departing from the traditional paper session format, the Lightning Talk format challenges researchers to communicate their research in a succinct, three minute presentation. Lightning talks can be a useful platform to enable researchers to develop skills in distilling the core thesis of their research, progress their ideas and concepts, solicit advice for research currently in development, practice skills in communicating their research to a broad audience, or present a short provocation to existing geographical discourses.

Presentations will be limited to three minutes only, which will be strictly enforced. During these three minutes, the presenter is invited to clearly outline and present their idea and offer a compelling oration of the significance of their research to a broad-based audience.

To participate please submit a talk title and research summary (maximum of three sentences) to [log in to unmask] and [log in to unmask] by the 27th February 2018. Further information about the Conference of Irish Geographers is available at http://www.conferenceofirishgeographers.ie/.

Do not hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions about the session.

We look forward to hearing from you,

GSI Postgraduate & Early Career Network Committee (PECN)
