Posting on behalf of Jem Finer:

An important art and design library collection is looking for a new home:
In 2012 Jem Finer bought the Byam Shaw Library from Central St Martins in order to keep it together as a collection, and to keep it from being sold off to a private bookseller. There are 240 boxes of books, each box measuring 15" (L) x 10" (W) x 15" (H). There are between 8 and 16,000 books (students from the Prince's Drawing School are in the process of making a digital catalog though at the time of writing this isn't complete). A really amazing collection ranging far and wide subject wise. Plus shelving.

The collection covers a wide range of subjects with large collections of Artists monographs, art history, theory etc, also specific areas, painting, sculpture, film etc etc and then philosophy, psychology, fiction, history . . . anything that might have even a tangential relationship to thinking about and making art.

The books have been in storage in Brighton for the last 4 years, pending being housed in the University. This is now not going to happen. We're looking for somewhere where they can be shelved and made accessible to the public.

Institutions interested please contact Jem directly: [log in to unmask]
