Hi there,

Please be aware of/ circulate the following to your respective mailing lists…

There are still places left on the following courses from the ESRC-funded Consumer Data Research Centre at the University of Leeds:

Introduction to ArcGIS

19th March 2018 @ 9:30 am - 4:30 pm

Leeds Institute for Data Analytics, University of Leeds

Course Tutor: Rachel Oldroyd

This 1 day course provides an introduction to Geographical Information Systems (GIS) using ESRI’s ArcGIS version 10.2 software. It provides participants with the opportunity to familiarise themselves with using and navigating the software, as well as focussing on the skills of data entry, data manipulation, editing, analysis and mapping. The emphasis of this course is working with vector data in the context of a variety of socio-economic applications. The course will mix teaching with demonstrations and hands-on exercises.

Tableau Workshop

22nd February 2018 @ 9:30 am - 4:30 pm

Leeds Institute for Data Analytics, University of Leeds

Course Tutor: Roy Ruddle

Tableau Software, in partnership with the University of Leeds and the Consumer Data Research Centre, is hosting a full-day workshop exclusively for staff and students at Universities around the UK. Tableau Software helps people see and understand data. Learn data visualisation best practices and receive hands-on training in a session delivered by Tableau experts. Please note that only emails ending .ac.uk can be taken into account for the registration.

Introduction to R

16th April 2018 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Course Tutor: Richard Hodgett

This course aims to provide you with an introduction to the analytical programming language R. The course will focus on data pre-processing and visualisation, two of the key steps in understanding and generating insights from data. During the course you will learn about the benefits of R, how R handles different data types and how you can begin to use R to solve complex data science, machine learning and statistical problems. The course assumes no knowledge of R or statistics.

R for Transport Applications: Handling Big Data in a Spatial World

26th 27th April 2018 @ 9:30 am - 4:30 pm

Leeds Institute for Data Analytics, University of Leeds

Course Tutor: Robin Lovelace
This course teaches two skill-sets that are fundamental in modern transport research: programming and data analytics, with a focus on spatial data. Combining these enables powerful transport planning and analysis workflows for tackling a wide range of problems, including: How to effectively handle large transport datasets. In terms of content, the first day will focus on how the R language works, general concepts in efficient R programming, and spatial and non-spatial data classes in R. Building on this strong foundation the second day will cover the application of the skills developed in Day 1 to transport datasets, with a focus on geographical transport data. Prior experience with transport datasets or common geographic data formats is essential.
