Our Editor has received the following.
Hi Jan:
I hope this is not too much of a bother. I am not a member of the Kipling Society but I thought I would start here.....

My name is Frank Herron. I am writing from Winchester, Massachusetts, USA.
I am writing a book about a woman who worked with American soldiers who were blinded in World War One. She (my great aunt) left diaries and an autograph book.

She was in Egypt in early 1913 at the same time that Rudyard Kipling was there. She had lunch with the Kiplings (and Mr. Satterlee) on March 7 and noted that the Kiplings left the camp on March 8.
On that day, Rudyard Kipling wrote the following in her autograph book:

Rudyard Kipling
Deir-el-Bahri
March 8, 1913
...I came on the wreck of a palace--such as a King had built."

I have enjoyed reading about his visit in "Egypt of the Magicians".

I was wondering if someone could let me know if he was in the habit of quoting from his poems or if this was something special. Certainly the setting (archaeological site) was quite appropriate for him writing a line from that particular poem.

I would appreciate any guidance you could offer.

All the best,
Frank
