The Changes to the Disabled Students’ Allowance – what does it mean for students, universities and libraries? [Ref. TG2/DSA]

The Disabled Students Allowance is an important means of financial support for disabled students in England and Wales. The government proposed changes to the DSA, which came into effect in 2016, moving away from individual DSA grants and towards institutionally funded support.

 

Moving into Management [Ref. TG4/MIM]

Progressing into management is both exciting and daunting. This interesting and engaging two-day course will provide an insight as to what it means to be a manager. Attendees range from those who want to know whether management is really for them to those who have just started out in a management role for the first time and are looking for an all-round basic introduction to the skills they will need.

 

Circulation Policies Revisited [Ref. TG3/CircPol]

All libraries are continuously trying to improve access to course materials, whilst at the same time making sure items in high demand circulate effectively. Speakers from University of York and Imperial College will discuss their circulation policies and UCL will detail their approach to laptop loans.

 

Copyright Support in Higher Education: A Tale in Two Parts [Ref.TG2/CopyTale]

26 February 2018
The afternoon will include two panel discussions exploring copyright issues. The first part of the afternoon will focus on teaching support and copyright including 
Lecture recording and use of YouTube. The second part of the afternoon will focus on supporting research and the associated copyright issues including dealing with images and third party copyright in theses and other publications.

 

Marketing Yourself: Transferable Skills [Ref. TG4/SKILL]

In recent years, the nature of the role of the Subject Librarian has changed considerably, with a number of libraries adopting a more ‘functional’ structure, and a few dispensing with the position altogether. 

 

Supporting Students with Disabilities [TG1/ASPECTS3]

This workshop is aimed at people who have an interest in supporting students with disabilities; examining theoretical ways of assessing the current service that you are providing for your disabled students and practical ways of supporting students from the perspective of a subject librarian with a disability support role.

 

The Copyright Game [TG1/ASPECTS4]

Participants will develop an understanding of the basic principles of copyright legislation and work in teams to tackle a range of real world scenarios, exploring the relationships between legislation, licences and fair dealing exceptions when using copyright content for educational purposes.

 

Supporting Open Scholarship: An Introduction [TG1/ASPECTS7]

Speakers at this event will explore the role of libraries in supporting open scholarship, outlining the context of open scholarship, open access and open data; libraries’ roles in advocacy, training, and in maintaining repositories, and the skills and experience needed to enter into this growing area.

We’re Listening: how to shape library services using UX data, student-library partnerships and other feedback [TG1/ASPECTS10]

All academic libraries now realise the importance of actively obtaining student views about their services. Many have conducted UX research, which uses the techniques of ethnography to explore how users experience library services and spaces.
