HLG is delighted to invite applications for 10 Bursaries to attend this year’s HLG Conference which will be held at Keel University between 13th and 15th June. Each bursary will cover the full cost of attendance (including welcome drinks reception and conference dinner) as well as up to £200 to cover the cost of travel / accommodation expenses. Closing date for bursary applications is 17.00 on 28th February 2018.

 

We’re offering 3 categories of bursary this year:

 

·         4  ‘First-timer’ Awards to support HLG members who have not attended an HLG conference before.

 

Never been to an HLG Conference before? These bursaries could be for you…

 

·         4 ‘Active participant’ Awards to support HLG members who are either presenting a paper, hosting a workshop or submitting a poster.

 

Are you thinking of submitting an abstract for a paper / workshop / poster to the HLG Conference in Keele but unlikely to be funded by your organisation? Finish your abstract first and submit it before 31st January . Once you have submitted you can apply for one of these bursaries. Application does not guarantee that your abstract will be accepted and these bursaries will only be awarded to individuals who are presenting / displaying a poster.

 

·         2 ‘Student’ Awards to support students who are enrolled in a part-time or full-time University LIS course.

 

Any LIS students interested in Health Librarianship are invited to apply for one of two student bursaries.

Guidance for Applicants

·         The 2018 HLG Conference bursaries are open to CILIP Health Libraries Group members, applications for the student bursaries will also be accepted from non-members. 

·         Funding is available for attendance at the HLG Conference, 13th – 15th June 2018 / Keele University. The award will cover the cost of full registration and up to £200 travel / accommodation expenses.

·         Applicants will need to confirm whether any additional funding is being received from an alternative source.

·         Applicants should confirm that they will be able to attend the conference if successful and, where applicable, that their line manager has given approval for them to attend.

·         The value of the award is at the discretion of the Health Libraries Group Committee. The Committee’s decision is final and no correspondence can be entered into. The Committee reserves the right not to award the Bursaries.

·         Deadline for receipt of applications is 28th February 2018. Applicants will be notified as soon as possible after the decision is made.

·         A condition of being awarded funding is that recipients will share their experiences with HLG members and that a meeting report, conforming to the guidelines on the HLG website, is produced.

·         Preference will be given to applicants who have not been a recipient of an HLG Bursary over the previous 5 years.

a)            Why should the CILIP Health Libraries Group fund you?

Give examples of your professional engagement and how you might share your learning and conference experience with colleagues.

b)            What do you hope to gain from attendance?

Where possible please reflect on how your attendance at the HLG Conference is particularly relevant to this stage of your career.

Applicants should confirm that they will be able to attend the conference if successful and, where applicable, indicate that their line manager has given approval for them to attend.

Applications must be received by 17.00 on Wednesday 28th February 2018.

 

Advice / guidance: First-Timer applicants will benefit from waiting until the draft Conference programme has been published (mid-Feb) to support reflection on the conference programme / presentations.

Active participant applicants should reflect on the benefits of their involvement, including any reasons for why they chosen to present at this year’s conference.
