Nick,

Not much to go on from Warwickshire apart from that they are getting rarer!

We used to have two, one at Warwick and one at Brandon (just east of Coventry) but the former closed down in 2007 and the latter in 2016.

Some info here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warwick_Greyhound_Stadium
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brandon_Stadium#Greyhound_racing

I remember looking at this a bit when I did the HLC in Warwickshire and wrote this in the report (2010):

"Only one stadium is recorded in the HLC and this is the Coventry Stadium just next
to Binley Woods. This is a greyhound racing track and is first marked on the 1955 OS
map. Greyhound race tracks and stadiums appear to be a rare type in England with
only 28 official tracks left in the country. There may be a need to investigate the
historic potential of this site. A second greyhound racetrack is recorded by the HLC at
Warwick but appears to be an independent greyhound racing track not regulated by
the Greyhound Board of Great Britain."

I am not sure how much that applies now but hope it helps.

Good luck!

Ben

Hi Nick,

Reliably told by Worcestershire’s Historic Environment Adviser (ex- ASE) that ‘ASE did Walthamstow and this year's PCA calendar includes Wimbledon dog track, which they recorded’.

Hi Nick

There was a controversy here over a developer’s plans to develop a dog track. The council successfully had it designated as a Conservation Area.

Hi HEROs, and other less heroic list members, and Happy New Year to you all!

Heres a Friday question for you

Does anyone know of any research done into dog racing and dog tracks and their heritage significance?

I now have two proposed for demolition and redevelopment, and trying to work out what is reasonable to ask for (potentially) in recording, if relevant

Going to as for HS’s to look into them, but if anyone know of any relevant research that would be helpful

Best wishes
