Hi Adam

Sorry I can't reply in the thread as I get GEM Digest!

You could contact Nic Skipper, The Education Coordinator at the Sedgwick Museum of Earth Sciences in Cambridge for some ideas- she has a range of fossil activities both taught in the museum and for outreach, including some early years resources, and a great deal of experience teaching cross-curricular content using fossils.

National Museum Cardiff run some really interesting Fossils sessions, including a dinosaur sounds orchestra! Great North Museum Hancock in Newcastle also run a good Fossils session, as does OUMNH- look for information and contacts online. Three other museums services I work with run fossil casting as an activity; this is great if you don't have a great deal of objects because you can make a classroom museum and use this cover nomenclature and description plus some museum skills. Let me know if you'd like a contact to find out more.

ESTA, the Earth Science Teachers Association, offer some classroom resources that you could have a look at to adapt, or suggest to teachers to supplement your activities. These have the advantage of being kept up to date for the curriculum and around research. ESTA is always looking for new members, and the annual conference is excellent! http://www.esta-uk.net/index.htmhttp://www.esta-uk.net/index.htm

Nearer to you, the Jurassic Coast Trust run a variety of programmes around local geology including fossils, it might be worth getting in touch to find out more.

You could also come to the Fossil Festival in Lyme Regis in May and get some ideas! https://www.fossilfestival.co.uk/https://www.fossilfestival.co.uk/

Hope this is helpful!

Warm wishes,

Annette

Subject: Stone/Iron Age + Fossils

Hey GEM,

Just wondering if anyone knows of good examples of learning resources for Stone/Iron Age and Fossils. Our local schools have been asking a lot more for these subjects with the curriculum changes and we are trying to build new exciting outreach sessions with what few objects we have.

Thanks!
