Subject: Early years work in museums-especially Yorkshire museums
Hello Gemmers
I am putting some advocacy resources together for Museum Development Yorkshire which we hope will also provide a useful tool for any museum whatever your geography with health and wellbeing advocacy. I am particularly interested in any work with :
· mums to be and /or
· early years (birth)0-5 and/or
· childhood 3-8 years.
Although I have a specific interest in Yorkshire developments I’d love to hear about any activity irrespective of your location as I have a national remit around the Creative Health agenda with the NHS Maternity Vanguard and the national social prescribing network.
You may be aware of the outcry about the under-funding of children services in England, with child health falling behind that of many other European countries and the epidemic of children presenting at primary school last September ‘not school ready’. The Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health said the young were the most "disadvantaged" by inefficient health services, cuts to public health, and a "rising tide of poverty".
Perinatal mental is also a huge and stigmatising issue for women in the UK. Suicide is one of the leading causes of maternal death. I’ve got some useful info graphics for anyone with an interest in this health arena, so do get in touch if you’d like to know more. As always I am happy to collate and share responses with the gem list so any respondents please reply off list.
