Hello Lisa,
The tools you mentioned are low-level utilities and not capable of generating the diffusion tensors. I would recommend having a look at the diffusion practical ( https://fsl.fmrib.ox.ac.uk/fslcourse/lectures/practicals/fdt1/index.html ) which covers tensor generation as well as the FDT docs ( https://fsl.fmrib.ox.ac.uk/fsl/fslwiki/FDT ).

Hope this helps,
Kind Regards
Matthew

Happy New Year All,
Per Dr. Mark Woolrich's email below, I am emailing my questions regarding the interpretation of the output from the FSLUTILS commands - fsl2ascii, fslhd, and fslinfo.
I obtained diffusion-weighted images of subjects with brain tumors. From these images, I need the corresponding diffusion tensors. I created NIFTI files from the images. I used the FSLUTILS command – fsl2ascii – to convert the NIFTI image files to ASCII text files and the fslhd and fslinfo commands to obtain the header output for the NIFTI files. Could you please assist me in interpreting the contents of these ASCII files based on the header output? Specifically, I need the diffusion tensors – Dxx, Dxy, Dxz, Dyy, Dyz, and Dzz – for the corresponding (x, y, z) locations.
Thank you,
Lisa

Dear Lisa,

Please can you email the FSL email list for help with this.

Best Regards, Mark.

Subject: FSLUTILS Commands - fsl2ascii, fslhd, and fslinfo - Questions about Interpretation of Output

Good Evening Dr. Woolrich,
My name is Lisa Antoine and I am an Interdisciplinary Engineering doctoral student at the University of Alabama in Birmingham, Alabama, Unites States of America. I am writing to ask for your assistance with the FSLUTILS command-line utilities. I would be very grateful for your advice.
I am currently working on my dissertation research. I obtained diffusion-weighted images of subjects with brain tumors. From these images, I need diffusion tensors. I created NIFTI files from the images.
I used the FSLUTILS command – fsl2ascii – to convert the NIFTI image files to ASCII text files and the fslhd and fslinfo commands to obtain the header output for the NIFTI files. Attached are the ASCII text files and the corresponding header output.
Could you please assist me in interpreting the contents of these ASCII files based on the header output? Specifically, I need the diffusion tensors – Dxx, Dxy, Dxz, Dyy, Dyz, and Dzz – for the corresponding (x, y, z) locations.
Thank you,

Lisa
