Purpose of the role of the University Deputy Chief Examiner
The University Deputy Chief Examiner annually reviews the operation of the University's boards of examiners for undergraduate, and integrated masters in order to assure the University
that the conduct of the University's boards of examiners are consistent with the University's regulations and policies and procedures for the operation of boards of examiners.
The University chief examiner should:
·
Currently hold, or recently have held (i.e. within three years), a senior appointment at an HEI;
·
Have significant experience in the management of academic quality and standards, at either institutional or faculty (or equivalent) levels, including
for developing/maintaining academic regulations, malpractice, mitigation, and appeals.
·
Not have held an external examiner's post at the University for at least five years;
·
Hold Senior of Principal Fellowship of the HEA and/or have undertaken the HEA training for external examiners.
Appointment of the University Deputy Chief Examiner
The period of service for the role is four years. Extensions of the period of service, or renewals, are not usually permitted.
Nominations for the role should be accompanied by a full curriculum vitae for the nominee.
Role and responsibilities of the Deputy Chief Examiner
The University Deputy Chief Examiner shall:

Attend the Awards Boards, usually held in June of each year;
·
Report on the conduct of the Board (in relation to the consistency of the conduct of boards of examiners with the University's regulations and policies
and procedures for the operation of boards of examiners);
·
Submit an annual report on this consideration to the University.
