The School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Bradford is looking for two dedicated individuals to undertake the role of external examiner for our MSc programmes in Cyber Security; Big Data Science and Technology, Internet of Things; Software Engineering and Internet Architecture to commence immediately.

MSc Big Data Science and Technology provides students with the knowledge of cutting-edge methodologies, approaches and skills in the emerging field of data science and big data applications, including advanced software development, systems for big data analytics, statistical data analysis data mining, distributed systems, data privacy and security, and data visualization and exploration.  The programme is intended to: ▪ equip graduates with the cutting-edge knowledge and skills to work in the industry as a Data Scientist, Big Data Architect, or Big Data Analyst. ▪ provide industry with graduates able to develop solutions to address challenges for big data analytics and developing big data systems.

The main goal of MSc Cyber Security is to prepare professionally trained graduates for industry. It has been designed to offer graduates the opportunity to develop a deeper understanding of cyber security as a discipline. The focus within this programme on the principles, technologies and practices of cyber security helps you to gain the appropriate skills for future PhD studies and research careers as well as to become competent practitioners. The programme comprises particular developments in security with a firm base in academic research and also offers the opportunity for you to study selected topics in advanced computer science.

The MSc Internet of Things (IoT) programme aims to prepare graduates with cutting edge knowledge and expertise in the modern world of IoT and smart cyber physical systems. It will give graduates a unique advantage in the job market with expertise in development of Smart Cyber Physical Systems; designing efficient communication and data management techniques and enable them to use state-of-the-art data science techniques and Big Data processing tools for handling large, complex and real-time data. The programme will focus on IoT programming, IoT application development stack, systems for big data analytics, statistical data analysis, data mining, privacy and security, cloud computing, advanced programming for mobile devices, and advanced IoT with data science. All modules are designed to encompass the overarching themes of IoT, delivering research-informed teaching in lectures, tutorials, and laboratory sessions.

An overview of your role and responsibilities includes:

Confirming the comparability of standards of student performance at University of Bradford with those of similar modules at other UK Institutions of Higher Education; confirming that the assessment process in its entirety is sound, and has been fairly conducted with full regard to justice to students; reporting and advising on the above by means of approving coursework and examination papers and providing an annual report to the University.

The appointee will be required to moderate a sample of work and you will also be required to produce an annual report and attend Boards of Examiners as appropriate.

You should have appropriate expertise/experience in a relevant discipline, be able to undertake a role in the assurance of academic standards in Higher Education and should be aware of modern developments in the design and delivery of the flexible curriculum.

You should not hold more than one other UK Higher Education External Examiner post at the start of the contract and be qualified to at least the level of the programme to be examined.  Preferably you should be a HEA fellow.
