Can anyone comment on the statistical issues behind the "Antiinflammatory Therapy with Canakinumab for Atherosclerotic Disease" in N.Eng J Med 377;12:1119-1131 Sep 21,2017, the appendix which was supposed to explain it all is quite complicated is this a no-inferior trial? if so why use placebo as control?

A New Year's resolution for all of us: Let's make 2018 the year in which scientific journals said goodbye to statistical significance. We just won't type "statistically significant" in our papers, even if asked by clueless reviewers and editors. Simple way for editors to improve science: If your journal still uses “statistical significance” in 2018, retire your statistical consultan.

Will the fashion for evidence based medicine and technological solutions come to be viewed the same way as brutalist architecture? Yes. The proliferation of rigid yet contradictory clinical guidelines; blunt point-of-care applications; and electronic medical record systems usually described as a hurdle rather than as a tool.

La medicina no es una comunidad planificada ni una ciudad de monumentos. Creo que hay sabiduría en el caos de la clínica o el hospital. El poder de la medicina basada en la evidencia es el de una promesa falsa de "solución universal".

Hi everyone,

Just wanted to say thank you to everyone for contributing and sharing your wealth of knowledge and experience in this forum.

I am not sure about other folks, but I have gained a lot of knowledge and insight from this forum. I want to thank especially some of the senior members for taking their time out from their busy schedule to answer questions and engage in discussions.

I would also appreciate if you write any articles to please post a link in the forum. I know Hilda Bastian writes several excellent articles.

Special thanks to Juan for always posting interesting and relevant articles

Thank you and happy new year 2018 :)
