*4S Sydney 2018*

*Call for Papers, Closed Panels, Making and Doing Presentations, and STS
Across Borders Exhibits*

*Sydney, Australia, 29 August to 1 September*

*Submissions Close February 1st 2018*

There are many ways to *participate in the 4S 2018 conference*
<https://4s2018sydney.org/call-for-papers-open-panels/>: presenting a paper
in an open panel, a closed panel, or a panel formed by the program
committee; being a discussant; chairing a panel; participating in a Making
and Doing session; participating in the STS Across Borders Exhibit,
attending a pre-conference event, and taking part in the range of social
and collegial events across the 4S conference.

Our *theme*

–
TRANSnational STS – encourages presentations, panels, and other events that
deepen and extend the transnational character of the Society itself, while
engaging issues invoked by both the TRANS prefix (across, beyond, to change
thoroughly), and by the problematic and evolving status of ‘nations’ in
processes of global ordering.

The *STS Making and Doing Program* <https://4s2018sydney.org/making_doing/> in
Sydney is open to STS scholars wanting to share expression of their
on-the-ground STS practices and innovations in scholarly knowledge work in
a range of formats that extend beyond academic papers or books – whether
through installations, technologies developed, exhibits, teaching
curricula, or other creative works. For inspiration, see submissions to the
*2015* <http://www.4sonline.org/md> and *2017*
<http://www.4sonline.org/md17/> exhibits.

All STS Departments, Publications, Networks, and Associations can sign up
for *STS Across Borders* <https://4s2018sydney.org/across-borders/>,
helping build exhibits for Sydney and a community archive! Also see
details on the *STS Across Borders Contributing Editors Program*
<https://4s2018sydney.org/across-borders-contributing-editors/> through
which people can work together (transnationally) on exhibits. Junior
scholars are especially encouraged to join.

Over one hundred *open panels*
