You have a point there Luke. Also visual poetry could be called avantgarde. But all other poetry can't really be defined as mainstream or avantgarde. So only sound and visual poetry are really avantgarde - as reason dictates.

An extreme example is sound poetry, unless you want to say that it's too late to be avant garde.
