The more I look into this confusion over definitions, I have to agree with Jamie to some extent — that there is no such thing as a mainstream and avantgarde. That is the logical conclusion that I have to come to. There might perhaps be a useful definition of “popular” and “not popular”, but even that opens a can of worms.
