The School of Mathematics and Applied Statistics, situated in the Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences (EIS), is one of the best mathematics departments in Australia, achieving an "above-world standard" classification in the Excellence in Research for Australia (ERA) rankings (In the most recent round (2015) of ERA ranking, both applied mathematics and applied statistics disciplines were ranked in the highest category of "well-above-world standard", and the pure maths discipline was ranked in the "above-world standard" category). We provide a learning and research environment that is supported by highly-qualified academic staff with expertise covering a wide range of sub-disciplines within the mathematical and statistical sciences.

The following positions are available:

Please note: All three positions are available at Level B (Lecturer, which is equivalent to an Assistant Professor position in the USA).

The School is seeking to appoint three enthusiastic and capable mathematicians/applied mathematicians/statisticians to undertake teaching, research, governance and community outreach/professional service duties consistent with a Level B (Lecturer) appointment. The first position is for an applied mathematician who has research experience in the field(s) of stochastic differential equations, with priority being given to candidates with research strength in stochastic optimisation, stochastic modelling in biology or medicine, and stochastic processes in financial mathematics. The second position is for a well-qualified statistician with a PhD in statistics, data science or closely related field and will contribute to the development of statistics teaching and research, particularity in the field of Data Science and Analytics. The third one is open to any field of mathematics, with priority being given to candidates with research strength in optimisation, mathematical modelling, financial mathematics, topological dynamics or functional analysis.
