The School of Mathematics, Statistics & Actuarial Science at the University of Kent has a fully-funded PhD studentship available to start in September 2018. The project, Modelling changes in abundance of species over space and time in island ecosystems, will require the construction of novel stochastic models for data on Mauritian reptiles and birds. The student will investigate both frequentist and Bayesian modelling approaches and will scrutinise the potential of automated model selection routines in frameworks to make the model fitting achievable by non-specialists.
Further details of the project can be found here: https://www.kent.ac.uk/smsas/postgraduate/PhD-projects/modelling_abundance_changes_rsm.pdf
The project will be supervised by Dr Rachel McCrea (for informal discussion please e-mail [log in to unmask]) and co-supervised by Dr Lianne Concannon and Dr Nik Cole of the Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust and Mauritian Wildlife Foundation.
The deadline for applications is Sunday 21st January 2018, and details on how to apply are given here: www.kent.ac.uk/smsas/postgraduate/phd-applications.html
