*         Base salary: $100K exclusive of annual leave loading and up to 17% superannuation





About the opportunity

The Westmead Applied Research Centre embraces innovation in an environment that fosters excellence in research design, delivery and translation leading to improvements in patients and population health.  The Centre's goal is to undertake innovative clinical research and research translation by:

*         Incubating clinical research trials that have a view to translation and impacting large populations

*         Providing leadership in the design and evaluation of digital health intervention and digital therapeutics



Specifically in the Westmead precinct, the Centre will foster excellent research responsive to the needs of local patients and populations.



Reporting to the Director - Westmead Applied Research Centre, the successful Senior Biostatistician will be responsible for statistical analyses and data management for a range of research projects at the Westmead Applied Research Centre. You will provide the design, implementation, conduct and reporting of medical research projects conducted by the Westmead Applied Research Centre (Westmead ARC) which is shared by the research divisions and the Statistics division.



The expectation is that you will grow a statistic group and/or network responsible for the provision of statistical expertise to support the research done at the Westmead Applied Research Centre (Westmead ARC); this includes clinical trials, meta-analyses, observational studies, surveys as well as teaching and the use and/ if relevant development of new statistical methods. Occasionally, the Statistics group also provides services to external organisations contracted via the Westmead Applied Research Centre (Westmead ARC).





About you

*       completed Masters/ Doctoral qualifications in Statistics

*       minimum 5-year experience as a statistician in medical research

*       advanced skills in the design and analysis of clinical trials of a range of designs and secondary analyses of clinical trial datasets

*       experience in contributing to data safety and management committees, including contributing to charters, statistical analysis plans and analyses for clinical trials

*       advanced skills in biostatistical analyses and models, including generalised linear mixed models (GLMMS), survival analyses, general estimating equations (GEES) and multilevel models

*       excellent working knowledge of statistical software such as SAS and in-depth understanding of probability and statistics theories and data management principles for clinical trials and medical research

*       experience in working with health datasets and linked data

*       the ability to work both independently and as part of a team, taking initiative and exercising sound judgement in resolving matters that may arise as part of normal daily work

*       proven management experience at a senior level; together with flexibility, capacity to adapt to changing circumstances and environments and, when necessary, navigating through ambiguity

*       excellent time and workload management skills with demonstrated ability to prioritise effectively, manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines and achieve required outcomes and effectively deliver results

*       experience, aptitude and ability to supervise and train junior statisticians to develop their skills

*       experience, aptitude and ability to supervise and train junior statisticians to develop their skills and demonstrated experience in the supervision, training, mentoring and performance management of staff; and experience managing and resolving a diverse range of HR issues

*       strong business acumen and strategic thinking skills together with effective leadership and people management skills

*       the ability to effectively manage a diverse group of key stakeholders on large or complex projects and the ability to develop/cultivate productive relationships with industry providers and key users.
