Research Associate: Kinetic Energy Recovery for Urban Logistics Applications

Applications are invited for a full-time researcher to work on a collaborative project entitled ‘Kinetic Energy Recovery for Urban Logistics Applications (KERS-URBAN)’, which received funding from the Innovate UK and Office for Low Emissions
Vehicles low emissions freight and logistics trial competition. The work will be conducted under the supervision of Dr Marc Stettler.
The overall aim of the project is to evaluate a new KERS technology for heavy goods vehicles operating in congested urban environments and quantify the benefits in terms of fuel consumption, pollutant emissions and noise. Our project partners
include two vehicle operators (Howdens Joinery Ltd and Sainsbury’s Supermarkets) and the KERS technology providers (Alternatech Ltd and Adgero).
The main research objectives of the position are to gather details using vehicle telematics throughout the vehicle trial period; lead fuel consumption, emissions and noise testing of the KERS vehicles; develop quantitative fuel consumption
and emissions models that can evaluate the KERS performance over a range of duty cycles; and to disseminate these research outputs to our industrial partners, to government and through academic publications.
Closing date for applications: 7th January 2018
Salary: £36,800 to £44,220 per annum
The start date for this research post is 1st February 2018 (with limited flexibility for moving it) and the salary will be based on the level of relevant experience of the successful candidate. All enquiries about the scope of the project
