Hello Don,

Coincidentally, we (design and society research group) are partnering with our own library (University of Montréal Library) to develop a large prospective vision to help them redefine their strategic plan. This work is just beginning so I couldn’t really give you many disruptive ideas to think of the future of the university library right now. Of course the issues of open access publishing, research data repositories, participative coding of archives, active co-working spaces are all crucial. What may seem somewhat interesting from the start in Montreal is the fact that the UdeM wishes to use its libraries to fill the gap with its surrounding neighbourhood and Montreal’s citizens. (In Quebec, scholars are frequently (and wrongly) accused of being out of touch with their community). So it will be like « university library goes public ».

Maybe UC library board should get in touch with UdeM library board. They are a bunch of very forward-thinking people, very exciting to work with.

Best,
