Hi all
It seems like timescales are getting dangerous for NatSCA. Please can we make a decision?
Perhaps Lapworth's lack of contactability isn’t a great sign for trying to organise a conference there?
Shall we go with Glasgow, or are there any final hats in the ring?
Cheers
J

Hi Guys,

Jon at the Lapworth has said he will look into costings for two different options. I have sent three(!) chaser emails this week. I will try and call him again tomorrow to chase and get details.

I'll update everyone tomorrow!!!

Thanks :)

Hiya folks
Have we got anywhere with conference info? I'm thinking we’re probably at the point when we need to land on a decision, right? Any news on Birmingham, Jan?
Cheers
J

Thanks Maggie,

Hon was pretty calm and organised, so if the costs for the venue are okay it could be a ice option (and take the pressure off you during the redevelopment).

Hi all,

Funnily enough I have just got off the phone with Jon at the Lapworth Museum!

He is keen to have us. We can either use a lecture theatre at the university. Or, the Bramall Music Hall (https://www.birmingham.ac.uk/bramall/index.aspx). He is checking costs for us and will let us know. Catering would be supplied through the university and he is getting me costs for that.

The University Lecture theatre would hold 150 people and he will need to check a space for lunches, trade stands and posters.
The Bramall Music hall holds 300 people and has a space for lunches posters and stands.

He would be happy for us to have a wine reception in the museum on the Thursday 5-7pm for free. And would be happy to sort out store tours for the conference.

He was very good and accommodating. He has arranged conferences and has some coming up so he knows the process quite well too , which is nice.

I guess the Lapworth choice depends on the cost of the Music Hall, and if that is too high, if there is a space for lunches/trade stands near a lecture theatre! Hoping to find out by the end of the week!!

Thanks all,

Jan

Dear All

Happy Halloween folks!

I recall we wanted to make a decision about the conference venue by the end of this month so the basics boil down to these two choices:

1. We can get the Kelvin Hall lecture theatre ( very nice, modern capacity up to 140), foyer bit sterile but suitable for refreshments. Get this for free. But trade stands and posters will have to go in a separate nearby room ( modest sum payable for that) . Available for 26/27th April. Catering by City Council, bit expensive

2. We can get the on-campus (but not part of any of the museums Charles Wilson lecture theatre (converted church, modern fit out, 100 and something capacity) with its foyer suitable for posters, trade stands catering. Cost for 2 days £1000, not available 26/27th April alternative dates offered Thursday 12th & Friday 13th April 2018 or Thursday 7th & Friday 8th June 2018 , catering by the Uni, bit cheaper.

Kelvingrove don't have suitable lecture theatre, NMS not up for doing the conf because of SPNHC in 2020.

Whadda we think?

Cheers

maggie
