The Department of Psychiatry at the Dell Medical School, University of Texas at Austin invites motivated applicants for a full-time Postdoctoral Fellowship. The position is in the Laboratory of Affective Neurogenetics directed by Dr. Mbemba Jabbi and involves projects integrating genomics with brain imaging including MRI, fMRI and MEG, and social affective behavioral measures in healthy controls and patients with mood disorders (Bipolar and Major Depressive Disorders).

The ideal start month is January 2018 but applications will be considered until the position is filled. Successful applicants will have completed a doctorate degree (i.e. DSc, DPhil, PhD, MD or equivalent) in behavioral or clinical neuroscience, computer science, psychology, bio/health informatics, engineering, physics, mathematics or a related field.

A primary goal of this postdoctoral training position is to propel the successful candidate towards building a future career in clinical neuroscience and as such, we seek individuals with strong interest in a career in brain sciences/behavioral health; an exceptional scientific curiosity; scholarly achievements as shown in peer reviewed publications; a collaborative spirit and ability to work in diverse teams; exceptional analytical and quantitative problem solving skills; and the ability to communicate novel and complex ideas verbally, through writing, and scientific presentations.

We study how specific variations in the genetic building blocks of human brain structure and functions influence affective behavior in health and in prevalent mood dysfunctions. Individuals versed in neuroimaging and/or genetics, preferably in using measures of primate/human brain anatomy and physiology to examine the role of genes in affective behavioral experience, regulation and their relationship to adaptive functions are strongly encouraged to apply. The ability to utilize cutting-edge computational integration of artificial intelligence/machine learning, genomics, brain and behavioral measures with study participant’s affective health status and disease states will be essential.
