Thanks Jewel -

Well, Schema markup can be added, but because CultureObject is an import mechanism and not a display one it’s really up to web developers to add any markup. Having said that, we have a “display plugin” extension in the works and it’s in our brains, for sure..

I’d normally go with the human readable element but wondered if the LODLAM types might get tense. Also, we’re seeing things like

man-drinking-beer
man-drinking-beer-2
man-drinking-beer-789

…which I’m not hugely happy with.

To answer Nick’s question (why not both) - I guess: why? and how - permalink redirects?

Not boring at all- very important, I think. Im just wrapping up a schema and website auditing workshop and it seems as though the crawlers are much more adept at looking for human-friendly content although schema is one way to help them figure out what the content is all about. Are you adding any schema code to the objects? If so, that should clear up any machine readability issues. Ultimately, I think any site should be built in favor of the human element. After all, we create website content for people, not machines, right? Sorry if you are already employing schema- I havent looked in on the project in a while. As long as whatever human-readable method of creating the urls has a protocol set up before-hand, the friendly urls should withstand the test of time I would think. Is that too perfect a world? ;-)

Why not both...?

Hi all

So… we’re tweaking some bits of http://cultureobject.co.uk/.

Question is this: should object permalinks be:

1) more machine-readable, and permanent, using the object identifier - for instance:

or

2) more human-readable, but likely more brittle, using the title - for instance:

Any thoughts?

cheers

ps. apologies for an incredibly boring question
