We’re currently working on a project which will be delivered in English, French and Arabic. We’ve looked into GT as an easy way of translating and, although it’s pretty good – actually, very good – at conveying the meaning, it is far from accurate enough to satisfy native speakers. This is especially true if you have longer pieces of text – the longer it is the more likely you’re going to have an embarrassing misinterpretation.
If budget restraints force you down the GT road, never ever publish without checking it with someone who has at least a passing knowledge of the language.

Subject: [MCG] Providing multilingual translations for museum info
Hi all
Once in a while the idea of providing multilingual translations of key user journeys on Wellcome Collection’s website crops up.
Has anyone here
My suspicion is that Google Translate is so dominant that our multilingual visitors would use GT first anyway. But it’d be good to hear from anyone who has tested this proposition in real life.
Thanks in advance,
Jenn
