Hi Janet, I’m not sure if this will help in regards to how many and what type of hits you will get but you could try using the phrases “primary diagnosis” (of cerebral palsy) and “principal diagnosis” (of respiratory
disease, and all your relevant synonyms) As I understand it, primary diagnosis is the term used to describe the condition actually causing a problem, and principal diagnosis the condition treated or diagnosed at the point of care.
Having said that you might want to double check that I’ve got them the correct way round!!

Subject: Help needed with search,
Dear All,
Please could I pick your brains. I have been asked for a search by a paediatric registrar (who had been asked to do it by her consultant) They are looking for anything on cerebral palsy where the first presentation to them has been for
a respiratory problem i.e. Cerebral palsy was not previously diagnosed. I am having difficulty excluding the articles on respiratory problems in already diagnosed cerebral palsy. Any tips on this would be gratefully received. I suspect that most of what
we find if we do will be case reports.
Janet
