Hello Helen,
I thought I’d ask our eLearning Unit about this (as I don’t have experience in this area). Dan’s reply is below.
All best,
Joanna
Hello Joanna,
At Liverpool external examiners can be given a temporary University MWS account and then enrolled on relevant modules so that they can a) look at the assignments directly in Turnitin and b) if they want to, look at the module and its content as well.
Not every school and department will use this as it will depend on the preference of the external examiner. People here have so far seemed happy to live with the risk that someone might accidentally change a grade. I know at other institutions this has been more of an issue and they are investigating whether a special external examiner role can be created that gives you a read-only view of a module and the assignments. I've not heard about any more developments on this. Happy to chat more about if needed.
Best,
Dan

Subject: External Examiner Access
Hi,
With Turnitin Feedback Studio offering new ways of presenting feedback and read-only access not being available on the system, I was wondering how colleagues elsewhere were managing external examiner access. Downloading papers excludes audio feedback yet full access to Feedback Studio runs the risk of feedback being accidentally overwritten. This is particularly the case with the new slider style of rubrics, which could easily be clicked on in error. How do others approach this?
Many thanks,
Helen
