Hi Cathy,

Try a local flea market/antiques centre for toys such as lead soldiers, wind-up trains, board games. You can usually pick-up less than pristine sets for little money. Local am-dram may have items of period clothing or try a local vintage clothing shop if there’s one close, if you need clothes. A 1930s typewriter, box brownie, cheap bellows rangefinder camera, enamel saucepans, crockery should be fairly easy to come by at similar antiquey/flea market places. Portable gramophones come pretty cheap as do 78s.

How much money can you spend?

David

Dear GEM List

I am in the process of setting up an Education Centre at Bekonscot Model Village and am looking to source some handling and display artefacts relating to life in the 1930s. In particular household items, food packaging and toys and games. As I am new to this any suggestions, advice and words of wisdom would be very much appreciated.

Thank you
