at HafenCity University Hamburg (HCU)

is looking to recruit a

Research Associate (Wissenschaftliche/r Mitarbeiter/in)
(75 per cent, TVL-13, € 33,000 to € 40,000 per annum,
depending on previous work experience)

with a background in economic geography and/or economic sociology. We are seeking outstanding candidates with an excellent Master degree. The successful candidate will work in the research project “Smart Cities: The Standardization of Cities?” funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG). The research seeks to explore the global diffusion of smart-city strategies. More specifically, the project investigates corporate strategies of global technology firms as well as the bargaining processes between these private players and local administrations. The successful candidate will be responsible for the Amsterdam case study within this project.

Experience in empirical research, willingness to contribute to relevant conceptual debates and writing ability in English are required. Fluency in German is preferred. We are particularly seeking candidates who are eager to contribute to the further development of the Research Group in the exciting new university context of the HCU. The Research Group Urban and Regional Economics offers an excellent opportunity for academic development, a collegial atmosphere in an open and multi-disciplinary setting, and international research contacts. The successful candidate is strongly encouraged to develop a doctoral dissertation in the context of the research project.

The appointment is to commence at 1 March, 2018. The contract will be limited to a period of 3 years.
