Conference: Advancing inclusive policies and practices for disabled people within Further & Higher Education

ATEC HEADsUp will be bringing together an insightful group of speakers to help inform you about key recommendations for improving the support for students with neurodiverse learning needs, disabilities and long-term health conditions.

The full-day agenda will be led by Greg Boone from the Department for Education, who will be presenting on key outcomes from the  HEFCE report,  as well as updates on Disabled Students’ Allowance and the response of the higher education sector 

Other speakers on the day include:
  • Robert Maclaren, All-Party Parliamentary Group for Assistive Technology - overview of policy developments in HE and inclusive technology: the HEFCE report, and the new version of the TEF (The Teaching Excellence and Student Outcomes Framework).
  • Ursula Bilson and Tina Sharpe, De Montfort University (a case study organisation in the recent HEFCE Report) - will share their vision and achievements for creating an inclusive organisation through the use of assistive technology.
  • Rob Turpin, British Standards Institute - How BSI is currently undertaking to create national standards to support the importance of neurodiversity, workplace wellbeing and student mental health
  • Diane Lightfoot, Business Disability Forum - Insight into the work they do and examples of best practice being adopted in education establishments around the UK
  • Pete Quinn - Practical / best practice experience (from working with Higher Education Institutes across England, Scotland, Wales and beyond)
  • Rick Bell, Texthelp - Universal Design for Learning; moving on from ‘reasonable adjustment’.
