Are you a qualified archivist, perhaps with experience in a business or charity?    Are you interested in working with your main base at the Bodleian Libraries (Weston Library) in Oxford, but also spending some time at Oxfam in Oxford?    

Oxfam GB is recruiting for an archivist for a maternity cover role (April – December 2018) to work with the team at the Bodleian Libraries to complete an exciting project to appraise and catalogue the Oxfam archive as well as to provide an archive enquiry service to Oxfam.  This is a unique opportunity to work with a professional team at the Weston Library and with the committed staff and volunteers of Oxfam.  

 

What you’ll be doing

You will normally be working about half of your time at the Weston Library, and half at Oxfam House.     However, during significant periods you will be based at the Bodleian Libraries only in order to respond most effectively to Oxfam queries.

At the Weston Library you will work with a team of archivists and volunteers on cataloguing specified sections of the Oxfam archive to the agreed cataloguing targets.   With colleagues you will also support enquiries from Bodleian researchers etc., and take part in presentations of the Oxfam archive as required.

For Oxfam you will promote the archive and respond to enquiries, as well as presenting  the archive to Oxfam supporters as required.

 

What you’ll need

·         Appropriate first degree and a postgraduate qualification in archives management

·         Commitment to Oxfam’s values and interest in its history

·         Knowledge and experience of cataloguing, and of the application of IT to archival work

·         Excellent communication skills

·         The ability to work independently and in a team

·         High levels of discretion when dealing with sensitive materials and matters
