Subject: Band 7 Clinical Scientist vacancies x2 - King's College Hospital

Dear All,

We invite applications for x2 Clinical Scientist roles from enthusiastic and motivated individuals with HCPC registration or those expecting to obtain registration within the next 6-12 months. Trainees in the final year of their training are actively encouraged to apply.

The Clinical Biochemistry Laboratories at King’s College Hospital (part of Viapath Analytics LLP) provides specialist service delivery using latest technology in a variety of laboratories (Metabolic, Immunochemistry, Porphyrins, Gastrointestinal, Steroids, Diabetes, POCT).

The two successful candidates will be expected to participate in all areas of Clinical Biochemistry including clinical authorisation, however the individual roles will provide scientific leadership in either our Metabolic or Gastrointestinal Investigations Laboratories.

The post holder in the Metabolic Laboratory will be responsible for the development and delivery of a broad range of complex, specialised diagnostic procedures including biogenic amines and markers of excess of alcohol intake, based predominantly on HPLC, LC-MS and capillary electrophoresis techniques. The Gastrointestinal Investigations Laboratory provides novel and non-invasive tests for intestinal permeability using urinary profiles by LC-MS of different molecular weight sugars taken orally and excreted in the urine. The laboratory also performs faecal calprotectin testing for gut inflammation, and faecal elastase testing for pancreatic insufficiency as well as faecal sugar analysis. We are looking at introducing quantitative FIT testing in light of recent NICE guidance in the near future. In both the Metabolic and Gastrointestinal Investigations laboratories you will be expected to participate in original research / coordinate collaborative research (both locally and nationally) in your respective areas.

Previous experience is not necessary as full training will be provided. More important is enthusiasm and a willingness to learn! We have a number of training activities in place in the department to help individuals progress towards FRCPath examinations.

Closing date is 15th December. Interviews will be held January 3, 2018
