Hi all

I’m circulating this role to the PSCI community both in Ireland and the UK as the position offers a great opportunity for someone interested in Irish science communication opportunities.

The I-Form Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre has been established by Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) to deliver high-impact, innovative science and engineering within manufacturing. The Centre brings together a multi-disciplinary team of over 70 PhD and Post-Doc researchers in manufacturing engineering, materials and data science, in a cross-disciplinary and translational research environment. I-Form, which stands for intelligent manufacturing combined with forming / fabrication, was conceived to deliver a step change in Irish manufacturing competitiveness and to be a world-leading centre of expertise in advanced manufacturing. The Centre’s research programme is primarily focused on additive manufacturing (‘3D printing’), combined with the application of advanced digital technologies in a manufacturing environment. Its research focus involves an innovative combination of material science, modelling, advanced process monitoring, data analytics and process feedback.

The role will include the development and implementation of the Centre’s Education and Public Engagement (EPE) Programme and Communications Strategy, including the coordination of all communication, education and public engagement activities from the Centre’s research community to support SFI’s objective outlined in the SFI Strategic Plan Agenda 2020 – “to have the most engaged and scientifically informed public”. In developing the Education and Public Engagement Programme and Communications Strategy, the successful candidate will lead the Centre in demonstrating the importance of advanced manufacturing to a range of key stakeholders, achieve societal impact through a range of targeted activities, outputs and engagement outcomes, fully evaluate education and public engagement activities, and be responsible for achieving the Centre’s EPE Key Performance Indicators. The successful candidate will also be expected to develop the Centre’s EPE programme by leveraging additional external funding, e.g. SFI’s Discover Call and by supporting I-Form’s contribution to programmes organised by key stakeholders (i.e. SFI, IDA, IBEC etc). The role will also include engagement with Centre industry collaborators and the organisation of activities such as Industry Open Days, Seminars, Executive Education Days and internal communications events.
