Subject: RE: First clinical report | Benchmark maternity services | Illustrated summary
Hi Tina,
Dear Soo,
Many thanks for the useful feedback.
In terms of continuity of carer,
unfortunately at present it is not possible to measure actual continuity because this information is not included in the national maternity datasets. We have fed this back to NHS Digital and asked for it to be included in the next version.
The NMPA organisational report gives us the best idea at present of the current ability of services to provide continuity of carer
across antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care (p50-51) http://www.maternityaudit.org.uk/Audit/Charting/Organisational
Best wishes,
Tina
I am intrigued to note that, in the full report, the induction rate is nearly 50% in one Trust, and there is very wide variation across Trusts, but that this is not highlighted in the summary report and infographics. I haven’t yet had time to look at CS rates and so on.
Though it is good to see rates of use of midwife units in the summary report, continuity of carer doesn’t seem to be there and it is interesting that most of the infographics focus on low incidence (though, of course, important) adverse outcomes. Might it have been more logical to put the outcomes that affect most women at the top?
Just some thoughts….
All the best
Soo
