Dear HEROs,

In case the following is of interest (please feel free to circulate more widely):

Peer-reviewed journal Medieval Settlement Research and free digital archive of back issues

Medieval Settlement Research is an internationally recognised publication, containing peer-reviewed research papers, fieldwork reports and news, reviews and an annual bibliography. Published by the Medieval Settlement Research Group (MSRG), its core focus is on British and Irish medieval landscapes between the 5th and 16th centuries AD, but it also actively seeks wider chronological and pan-European perspectives. Medieval Settlement Research therefore welcomes papers on Britain, Ireland and Europe that help us to improve our understanding of medieval settlements and landscapes from the level of individual sites to the international scale. Medieval Settlement Research is published in full colour, in A4 format, with no restrictions on the number of illustrations allowed.

Medieval Settlement Research is archived with the Archaeology Data Service (ADS) (https://doi.org/10.5284/1017430), and all papers are available for download free of charge after an embargo period of 2 years from publication. It is also possible to publish Open Access with immediate effect for the very reasonable cost of £360 per paper. In this case, your paper will be immediately available for download free of charge from the ADS.

If you would like to submit a paper or a report to Medieval Settlement Research, or have any other queries, please contact the Editor, Letty ten Harkel, on [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>. The deadline for submissions is 1 April. More information and the author’s guidelines can be found on https://medieval-settlement.com/publications/journal/.

The Medieval Settlement Research Group, which originated in the 1950s as the Deserted Medieval Village Research Group, has a claim to being Britain’s oldest specialist medievalist research group. A digitisation project has recently been completed of all the annual reports of the Deserted Medieval Village Research Group, its successor the Medieval Village Research Group, the Moated Sites Research Group, and the Medieval Settlement Research Group. They are now all available for download, free of charge, from the ADS:
