Erwin Uhrmann
Bilingual
reading of his novel ‘I am the Future’
November 21, 19.00, ACF London
As part of his autumn UK tour, Austrian writer
Erwin Uhrmann will read from his recently translated novel ‘Ich bin die Zukunft’ (I am the Future – translated by Rachel Hildebrandt).
Film and theatre actor Giorgio Spiegelfeld (a.o. Barbican London, Chelsea Theatre, Salzburger Festspiele, Schaubühne Berlin)
will read from the English translation.
The reading will be followed by a Q&A moderated by Dr. Áine McMurtry, lecturer at King’s College London specialising in modern
German and Austrian literature.
‘I am the future’ was called a ‘literary masterpiece’ by Literaturhaus Wien.
Dealing with dystopian challenges arising from climate change - a man escapes to a house on a mountain seeking protection and
solitude and over the years begins to
oversee the breakdown of civilization in the valley - the novel is highly relevant and was therefore featured in a contribution to the Austria in Transit conference at King’s College London this past September.
