Dear Colleagues, Friends, Students, and Former Students

The faculty in my department, Classical and Modern Languages, Literatures and Cultures, is circulating a petition, ultimately to be submitted to the Board of Governors, in favor of preserving the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences' three-semester language requirement. The Dean's office has suggested reducing the language requirement to a single semester. As the petition makes clear, this is at odds with the University's strategic plan and will disadvantage students as they compete with graduates of other Michigan universities for jobs. Please take a look and, if you are so moved, consider signing. Students, faculty, staff, and friends of the University (and Humanities in general) are all invited to sign on; please feel free to share widely.

You can find the petition here: <https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdCF_orz_g0Ih6N3wYuXkyGCPyDGp3WpgNG87C62FiXQljRvg/viewform> https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdCF_orz_g0Ih6N3wYuXkyGCPyDGp3WpgNG87C62FiXQljRvg/viewform

Best,
Lisa
