Hi Tracey,

We don’t have a text book, but as an implementer, Mercy Corps’ work on
resilience is really accessible. If you go to www.mercycorps.org/resilience,
you will find a landing page that has many of our resilience materials,
including articles, case studies and videos. It also links to another
landing page on Strategic Resilience Assessments. All of our resilience
videos can be found on
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCBPRluCiNPxYtFpFgeoP94g.

Additionally, several of us have written resilience guidance notes that can
be found on the USAID website for the REAL award at
http://www.fsnnetwork.org/resilience-evaluation-analysis-and-learning-real-award.

We are happy for anyone to use our materials; please feel free to write if
you need more information.

Thank you. The Manyena one is new to me and looks suitable for the purpose.

Does anyone know pf any good text books covering resilience in an
accessible way?

Tracey.

Tracey,

One place to start might be:

Manyena, S. B. (2006), The concept of resilience revisited. Disasters, 30:
434–450. doi:10.1111/j.0361-3666.2006.00331.x

http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/j.0361-3666.2006.00331.x/abstract

Also, to explore the etymological roots of the term it might be useful to
look at David Alexander’s exploration which is available freely online here:

https://www.nat-hazards-earth-syst-sci.net/13/2707/2013/nhess-13-2707-2013.pdf

There are other texts I am sure, but these provide a good grounding and
places to explore the wider literature. I hope this helps!

Best wishes

Justin

Hi

I am hoping this is suitable for the list.

I teach both undergraduate and postgraduate university students about the
concepts of vulnerability and resilience. I talk about the shift to the
vulnerability paradigm and the subsequent rise of resilience. I emphasis
the contested nature of resilience. Whilst I have lots of sources I don't
feel I have a good starting text which I can recommend to help students
begin to get to grips with this slippery concept of resilience. Can anyone
suggest a textbook or paper which would provide a good starting point for
their reading.

Thanks

Tracey.
