Sometimes you wait ages for a major retail development then two come along at once. This month, the Tesco takeover of Bookers and the Co-op takeover of Nisa have both got the green light. http://fooddeserts.org/images/suptimeNonTesco.htm Regarding the latter, nice piece of irony in The Times report of 14 November, p.40. It said, Sainsburys considered a takeover of Nisa (which gives control of 3,200 'corner shops') but backed away due to competition concerns. If you look at a map of the UK's food retail locations, maybe the Co-op already has more of a spatial monopoly than Sainsbury does (in villages and suburbs). And these 2 locations are just where many of those 3,200 outlets from Nisa tend to be, rather than the city centres, High Streets and O-O-T locations where Sainsbury is often found.
