Barclays are recruiting for a permanent full-time Archivist to work at their Archive in Wythenshawe, Manchester.  The successful candidate will work as part of the Archive team to ensure the preservation of records, and the provision of information from them in support of the business needs of the Group.
 Your Role

 *   Appraise, accession and catalogue archives to agreed standards using in-house software (InMagic DBTextworks database).
 *   Provide information from the archives to colleagues across the Barclays Group as required. The vast majority of this work occurs remotely and involves a great deal of interpretation and explanation.
 *   Provide information from the archives to members of the public in accordance with agreed access rules. This work includes hosting research visits by members of the public.
 *   Manage the Group Archives Preservation and Conservation Programme, including identifying material in need of preservation or conservation, liaising with an external conservator, determining the best course of action, purchasing supplies, managing the conservation budget, and advising colleagues on the use of materials.
 *   Provide professional input to Group Archives' management and planning processes, including managing the team's cataloguing plan.
 *   Contribute towards the maintenance of the subsidiary company files for Barclays Corporate Secretariat, ensuring appropriate material is efficiently identified and retrieved as requested.
 *   Support non-professional staff and volunteers in tasks such as handling documents, minor conservation, palaeography, and inputting content to databases.
 *   Conduct original research, and create content on Barclays' history and archives for use online, and in articles and exhibitions.
Essential Skills

 *   Qualified Archivist (holding a postgraduate qualification in Archive Administration: DAA or an MA or MSc in Archive Administration/Management).
 *   Good level of social and communication skills when dealing with a range of people and situations.
 *   High level of confidence in using a range of IT systems.
Desirable Skills

 *   Experience of working in a business archive.
 *   Appreciation of the issues around the preservation of digital records.
