Within the walls of the state archives department is a treasure trove of
archival documents comprising, among other things, correspondence between
Goa and its neighbouring sovereigns like the Sunda kings, Sawants of
Sawantwadi, Kolhapur kings, Peshwas, Hyder Ali, etc. However, scripted as
they are in an alphabet no longer in circulation, the content of these
texts has for long remained beyond the understanding of the state's
historians.

But, that was until archivist Balaji Shenoy took it upon himself to dig
into the deepest recesses of the department to source official papers from
yore to decode the script.
