Hi It may not be really worth insuring irreplaceable collections against loss, as Stacey implies, but it is a good idea to insure them against the cost of conservation where the collection is damaged but not irretrievably destroyed (eg water damage after a fire). In that case, is it feasible to get an insurer to insure up to a given cost of conservation, ie to pay for the first £500,000 of conservation costs? If it is, your insurance issue then becomes 'how big a premium can you afford'?
