Dear Ann and Colleagues,

Thank you for your initiative - this is very thought-provoking. This is an
important issue for people at all stages of their careers, and it certainly
should prompt colleagues to think how they engage with and support each
other. My colleagues and I conducted some research on this a few years ago,
including how doctoral students coped with loneliness. Our findings echo
the observations made by you and Chelsea. This is the paper we published:

Janta, H., Lugosi, P., & Brown, L. (2014). Coping with loneliness: A
netnographic study of doctoral students. *Journal of Further and Higher
Education*, *38*(4), 553-571.
