Maybe you already have read this but other zooarchers working with reindeer herding might be interested in this Swedish Master Thesis from 2002 by Blind, Ann-Catrin & Kuoljok, Kajsa. 2002. Getens plats och funktion i det rennomadiska samhället. Uppsala University.

English abstract: Sami goat management

When you think of reindeer herding Sami, the rein is the animal you first think about. But until the mid-1960s, it was common among the reindeer herders to have goats. The reason was goat milk. The possession of goats has not received much attention in the documentation about the Sami life. However, in 1928, the reindeer slaughter can be read that the holding of goats was regulated to five goats per household. The Norwegian-Swedish Reindeer Conventions also provide regulations on the number of goats that the Swedish Sami people were allowed to carry during the summer work on the Norwegian coasts.
