Personal Tutoring and Academic Advising Seminar: Contemporary Narratives and Developing Practice

Wednesday 11th October 2017

Sheffield Hallam University

Speakers include Mike Laycock, author of the Personal Tutoring SEDA Special who will examine successful strategies for personal tutoring Alison Wilkinson and Ben Walker, University of Lincoln describing their Intervention for Success Project, Steve Outram, CRA Director will examine the Personal Tutoring and Academic Advising narratives in institutions that achieved a TEF God award, Cathy Malone and colleagues at Sheffield Hallam University will describe how they developed a very successful strategy for personal tutoring and Sam Dent, University of Sheffield, will describe the success of the HEFCE-funded Raising Awareness, Raising Aspiration Project linking personal tutoring to academic success.

The Final session of this Seminar will introduce the launch of the third cohort of the very successful CRA – SEDA Award in Personal Tutoring and Academic Advising

Personal Tutoring and Academic Advising: A joint CRA and SEDA - PDA Award

Third Cohort 2017/2018 Academic Year

A National Award, delivered by the CRA, accredited by SEDA, and mapped to the UKPSF.   

This award has been developed to address a national demand for the continuing professional development of higher education staff in the field of Personal Tutoring and Academic Advising.  Intended for those who are involved in personal or academic tutoring of students in post-compulsory, adult education and HE settings, the provision aims to:

As with other SEDA Awards, it supports professional engagement with the implementation of enhanced practice in evidence informed ways, and in the presentation of the learning and outcomes from this in the form of a Portfolio for accreditation.

PLEASE DON'T WORRY IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO ATTEND THE LAUNCH EXTENSION WORKSHOP AT SHU ON 11TH OCTOBER.  IT DOESN'T MEAN YOU CANNOT PARTICIPATE IN THE AWARD BECAUSE WE WILL BE OFFERING AN ONLINE WELCOME WEBINAR FOR THOSE UNABLE TO ATTEND THE EVENT.
