The Digital Preservation Coalition (DPC) is delighted to welcome University College London (UCL) as its latest Associate Member this week.

As well as holding significant digital collections, ranging from longitudinal primary research data to reference data and accompanying materials, and offering research data storage and preservation services to researchers, UCL is one of a small number of UK universities that teaches digital curation.

"UCL Library's Strategy specifically mentions 'the long-term curation of 'born-digital' special collections' as a priority, and we feel that the DPC's collective experience will be of significant help in developing strategy and planning for this area," explains UCL's Digital Curation Manager, Matt Mahon.

"As well as providing training and support for staff, we are keen for our Masters students to have access to the expertise of the wider digital curation community, providing them with the best opportunities for their early careers."

"UCL is an established and highly respected centre of excellence for information studies," explains William Kilbride, Executive Director of the DPC. "In line with the continuous change felt by many information managers, UCL have reflected the shift towards digital curation becoming a mainstream practice by fully integrating the discipline within their information management courses, providing excellent skills and career prospects for our next generation of archivists, records manager and digital preservation practitioners."

The DPC helps members to deliver resilient long-term access to digital content and services, helping them to derive enduring value from digital collections. The coalition also raises awareness of the attendant strategic, cultural and technological challenges and supports members through advocacy, workforce development, capacity-building and partnership.
