From the Royal College of Music Museum

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

We are glad to announce that MINIM-UK is available to the public from today at www.minim.ac.uk<http://www.minim.ac.uk>. MINIM is now the largest national resource about musical instruments in public collections and includes photographs, video and sound recordings and information about over 20,000 instruments in 200 collections in the UK.

It includes records about instruments in major national museums - such as the British Museum, V&A and Science Museum - as well as over 4,000 instruments that were not previously available online and were catalogued on site by Matthew Hill and Ana Sofia Da Silva.
The page also includes the most up-to-date list and navigable maps of UK Museums with musical instruments in their collections.
Records are already harvested by MIMO and will become available through Europeana in the next months.

The project was generously supported by the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) in 2015 and has been led by the Royal College of Music in partnership with Edinburgh University, the Horniman Museum and Gardens and the Royal Academy of Music. Google Arts and Culture supported the project as technological partner. It was directed by Richard Martin and Gabriele Rossi Rognoni

The database and harvesting platform was built on an open-source technologies, and we shall be happy to share resources and experience with other initiatives - within and beyond the world of music museums - that might have similar projects with no commercial purposes.

Please, get in touch if you are interested in finding out more, or for any feed-back and suggestions.

All best,

Erin
