2017 is undoubtedly the year of Stephen King. With the new film version of IT breaking box office records, Gerald's Game and Mr Mercedes winning critical plaudits, Sleeping Beauties storming the book charts, and the BFI running their first major retrospective of King movies, there's never been a more interesting time to talk all things Stephen King. To celebrate this great year, and to mark the publication of the inaugural issue of Pennywise Dreadful: The Journal of Stephen King Studies, this one-day symposium will extend critical dialogues concerning the intertextuality that permeates King's fiction, and the variant ways in which King's work is both haunted by his literary and cultural heritage, and haunts contemporary configurations of Gothic and horror.
