I am delighted to announce that the Department of Information Studies, Aberystwyth University is now  iMLA - Information Management Libraries and Archives, located within the Institute of Professional Development, effective 1 October 2017.

 

The name change reflects more accurately the current scope, focus and range of activity within the discipline, thereby ensuring more widespread professional recognition nationally and internationally.

 

iMLA offers a range of professionally accredited schemes, including Masters’ degrees in FT and DL mode, a Batchelor’s’ degree in DL mode, as well as FT/PT PhDs and Professional Doctorates (DProfs).

BACKGROUND NOTES:

IPD is one of 6 Institutes forming the academic organisational structure of Aberystwyth University.

Sections within IPD are the Graduate School; AberFlex; iMLA Information Management Libraries and Archives; Lifelong Learning; Welsh for Adults; Careers Service; Centre for the Development of Staff and Academic Practice; Centre for Widening Participation, Equality and Social Inclusion; and an Educational  Resource Publisher (CAA).

IPD delivers integrated flexible accredited learning, addressing all aspects of professional development, including Masters’ degrees, PhDs, Professional doctorates (DProf), CPD and all aspects of Academic Staff Development, such as Postgraduate Certificates in Teaching Higher Education (PGCTHE) and academic teacher training for postgraduate students.
