The College of Engineering, Computing, and Applied Science at Clemson University is soliciting applications for the Thomas F. Hash ’69 Endowed Chair in Sustainable Development. This position is supported by a fully funded $4M endowment created by Thomas F. and Mary Rebecca E. Hash and the State of South Carolina to establish a Center of Economic Excellence in Sustainable Development. This endowed chair is part of the South Carolina SmartState Program’s (www.smartstatesc.org) Center for Sustainable Development that has received over $8M in funding.

 

The College seeks a dynamic, innovative leader to build a nationally-recognized academic program in sustainable development at Clemson University. Departmental affiliation and tenure to be determined based on the best fit for the selected candidate. Candidate interests should span the broad range of interactions among the environment, infrastructure, economic development, and natural resources. Preferred research expertise includes those addressed by the National Academy of Engineering Grand Challenges for Engineering cross-cutting theme on sustainability (www.engineeringchallenges.org). The Hash Chair is uniquely positioned to provide collaborative leadership with researchers across campus and with public and private partners in the state of South Carolina. The College seeks exceptional candidates with a strong record of scholarship and obtaining federal, state, and industrial funding; experience building, leading, and managing a significant research enterprise; a commitment to excellence in undergraduate and graduate teaching; and a vision that will position the College prominently on the national stage. A doctoral degree in engineering or science-related field is required and candidates should have qualifications commensurate with an advanced associate or full professor.
